Mother's Kitchen

The flour fell
Like drifts of snow
My mother's hands
Were deep in dough

We always had
Her homemade cakes
And only ate
The bread she baked

And even now
I taste that smell
From where it comes
I cannot tell

It is the fondest
Thought I bring
To adulthood
Of childish things
